Hexavalent chromium

Inhaled hexavalent chromium is recognized as a human carcinogen.[4] Workers in many occupations are exposed to hexavalent chromium. Problematic exposure is known to occur among workers who handle chromate-containing products and those who grind and/ or weld stainless steel.[4] Workers who are exposed to hexavalent chromium are at increased risk of developing lung cancer, asthma, or damage to the nasal epithelia and skin.[2] Within the European Union, the use of hexavalent chromium in electronic equipment is largely prohibited by the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive.

Laugh Clown Laugh will be playing at the Granary in Frome on Friday July 6th between 8 and 11pm

At last! The latest massive volume of dank disco from the dank bedrooms (and living rooms) of the 1980s. Check out BCM9 at bandcamp

LCL are touting a rough old version of a song which never made it on to the recent long playing re-release, an unadulterated demo track called 'Taxi Dancer' at no. 15 on the album.

The ninth volume in the Bedroom Cassette Masters series, being a further compilation of synth & drum machine songs and tunes, most of which were recorded in bedrooms around the world between 1980-89. Two hours of music by over thirty artists, all with the same lo-fi analogue spirit in mind. The download includes an extensive 150 page pdf guide with artist features, gear information & vintage ephemera PLUS a printable j-card for compact cassette.

Electronic Sound Magazine No 04

It's four years now since the release of the album, and at the time there was an interview put out in October 2013, issue no 04 of a new magazine dedicated to electronic music called Electronic Sound. The magazine was only available via the app store at the time but can now by purchased as a beautiful glossy hard copy magazine, currently at issue no 34. We're not quite sure why the article was titled Merry Pranksters, I assure you there was no pranking involved although plenty of merry making! This article is up for the first time here outside of the magazine.
The Album is still available on vinyl from Medical Records
and on CD from this website or direct.

Be sure to catch LCL live along with Sweet Machine and Stereo Kela in Frome on Saturday November 18th. Details on the poster below...
Tickets £3 also available from EVENTBRITE

Smoke and Mirrors!

Thanks to everyone who made it to the album launch party on Saturday night, what a fantastic night in a great venue!
Thanks to Will for providing the speaker system and DJ Pestle for seaming together an excellent set of early eighties New Wave, Disco and Electronic records. After an early start at 7 we managed to wrap it up by about 12.30 ish.

Bedroom Cassette Masters 1980 - 89 Volume Four

Aside from the new album, LCL also have a track on this excellent new compilation album just out containing tons of stuff evoking a dystopian future as seen from a 1980's semi-detached council house upstairs bedroom recording studio. Lots of info about all the bands included.

LCL have been getting some airplay over at WFMU. Different tracks from the album on at least four different shows. When you can hear that crackle of vinyl accross the air waves you know it's the real thing. This is the first LCL radio play to the best of our knowledge.

Reel to Real

Quarter inch 2 track reel to reel backing tapes.
These old tapes had been sat in a cardboard box and shunted from house to house for the last thirty years ending up in Dominic's garage before we had them baked and digitised at Great Bear Studios in Bristol last August 2012. We hadn't realised that magnetic tape deteriorates and begins to chemically break down. Adrian at Great Bear did a fantastic job of restoring and digitising these tapes for us which contained backing material for 17 songs.

One inch 8 track recording of Feel so Young.
Similarly our 8 track recording that we made at Rendezvous studio in 1983 was baked and digitised for us in November at FX studio in London. This was great for re-mastering as our original master tape was kept by the record company who produced Abstract and we only had one copy of this song on cassette.

We have since Christmas been restoring the music on these tapes to its original clarity, replacing missing parts and giving it the treatment we thought it deserved after so much neglect.
With the help of engineer Will Angeloro who has re-mixed the music with us and mastered it to a level we hadn't thought possible.

Rendezvous on the first floor...

This is Rendezvous Studio on the first floor where we recorded 'Feel So Young' on the 1st of September 1983. We had real problems as we'd hired their Linndrum which would not send a gate signal to our MS20 so the engineer spent a long time figuring out a patch that would make this happen. I also had to learn how to program it and load in the sequences manually before we could start recording.
We had hoped to do three songs that day but ended up with only doing one.

These are examples of the home made pattern sheets I'd made up, with the aid of lettraset, a ruler and a photocopier, to record all the sequences from the TR606. These included trigger notation for the Pro One and MS20. The sheets proved invaluable as we tended to use the whole capacity of the 606 for every song.
